Accessibility Statement

At Kaufhaus Tyrol, we see diversity, inclusion, and equality as a social responsibility and have made them central parts of our corporate culture.
Because of these beliefs, Kaufhaus Tyrol is committed to implementing digital accessibility on the website in accordance with the legal requirements of the Accessibility Act (BaFG). For us, accessible access is not just a legal obligation, but also an opportunity to contribute to a fairer and more open society.

This accessibility statement applies to the website https://kaufhaus-tyrol.at.

Status of Compliance with Requirements

This website is only partially compliant with the AA level of the “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.1” and with the Directive (EU) 2019/882 on accessibility requirements for products and services (European Accessibility Act) and the Accessibility Act (BaFG) of the Federal Law Gazette BGBl. I No. 76/2023 due to the following incompatibilities.

Non-accessible Content

The following content is not accessible for the reasons listed below:

a) Incompatibility with the Accessibility Act (BaFG)

Main Navigation (Submenus):

Submenus in the main navigation are currently not recognizable as expandable elements, either visually (e.g., by an icon) or for screen reader users. In addition, keyboard navigation (opening with the down arrow key) deviates from established and expected web standards. This affects WCAG success criteria 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships), 2.1.1 (Keyboard), and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). We are working on a technical solution to resolve this issue.

Animated Headlines (Word-Split):

An animation library is used on the website that splits headlines into individual words or letters. To prevent screen readers from reading these fragments in a fragmented or incomplete way, the animated fragments have been hidden from assistive technologies. The full text is currently provided to the screen reader via an aria-label on the parent headline. This is a minor formal violation of HTML semantics, but was chosen as a workaround to ensure clarity for screen reader users. This affects WCAG success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).

b) Disproportionate Burden

Digital Publications (Issuu Flipbook):
To display our digital magazines, we use the external application “Issuu”. The code rendered in these iFrames is generated by the third-party provider and is beyond our direct control. Navigating the flipbooks with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation is currently not fully accessible (violating WCAG criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value and 2.1.1 Keyboard).

Newsletter Registration (Brevo):
The embedded newsletter registration form (provided by the external service Brevo) has shortcomings in programmatic accessibility. After submitting the form, success or error messages are not automatically communicated to screen readers (assistive technologies) (violating WCAG criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages).

Slider Elements:
The slider components used on the website are based on an external library that we can only partially adapt.
